What do you think will be consequences when/if Walmart make it into Australia as a manufacturer to retailer?

Do you think that is likely? It's a very small market. They would have to buy up one of the major players.

You bet I do think it is likely, someone like Woolworth's would give them a great hold in this region, esp with the move of Woolworth's recently into NZ and opening Dick Smith in India. Why won't they ??

But the Region as you call it is so small. Australia and NZ. Gaining a foothold in Aus or NZ is hardly a stepping stone into Asia surely?
