Financial Impact of Inventory

I have been researching the financial impact of inventory and I have to say I have found a few chapters and brief articles, but nothing of substance. I have looked into "Factory Physics" and "All I Need to Know About Manufacturing I Learned in Joe's Garage", as well as a few case studies (too industry specific) and some articles. All of them seem to be a good base, but not a great explaination or a thorough study.

Does anyone know of a good publication that covers this topic in detail? Any help is appreciated.

Haha well it was interesting. I have to say it is a great book to get down the basics of manufacturing, but it fails to provide any high level information.

So if you are in the manufacturing field it would probably be a bit of a bore.

Kai, I got a good site where you can find answers exactly matching your questions. Just google it with key words "Supply Chain Management and ERP Notes" and see the first site. I searched within the site with inventory optimization key word and found quite relevant information. Go get it!

Thanks for the tip. I read over the article and it does a great job of outlining key drivers effecting inventory. However, I am more looking at the financial impact of inventory, obsolescence, etc. More of a look at what it does to the bottom line if we panic buy, or there is too much WIP, that kind of thing.
