Default Warehouse ABC?

Probably a mini version of Cost to Serve. Not sure. But has anyone managed to do simple but effective activity based costing in a warehouse? Very important for multi user 3PL facilities, to work out what to charge each customer!

No...I got this file from a uni research database whicj I no longer have access to. However, if you have access to Internal Journal of Logistics or Emerald Reseach Database then try there.

This is the abstract if you are ineterested

The study concentrated on the following areas:
1. Warehouse efficiency
- work efficiency
- space utilization
- cost efficiency
2. Warehousing costs calculated by activity-based costing-method
3. Service level
4. Working methods
As required by benchmarking theory, some “best practices” were also defined. The best
practices include for instance IT-solutions, tracking and control systems, working methods
and an efficient warehouse.
This paper concentrates on factors that have an impact on warehouse efficiency and on the
possibilities to improve warehousing operations.
Keywords; warehousing efficiency, warehousing costs, the effect of order structure.

I have done it with spreadsheet models but as with any spreadsheet model, it is not easy. The problem being the ease of use, numbers of worksheets, potential for error etc etc.

Have also used spreadsheet models for warehouse ABC. If there is anything better I'd love to hear about it.
