Default Why is the Aerospace sector so Picky??

I have been in supply chain for about 15 years, in different disciplines, FMCG, Retail, Distribution, Chemicals, Drink, Food, POS....

Yet when I have applied for position within Aerospace companies they have not even given me the time of day, Quoting that i do not have Aerospace experience

Is this sector that specialised ?

If so how can you get experience if they do not employ from outside...it is the Chicken and Egg situation.

Please someone let me know, as I tend to steer well clear of new positions within this sector.

My Brother works in the Industry, as an Engineer. My Father was a pilot all his life, so I have seen it from a few sides.

I guess it all stems from the high safety standards and rigorous training. This seems to create the view that anyone 'outside' the industry won't understand it.

Load of BS if you ask me :-)

How do they keep there staffing levels up if they don't employ from outside the industry?

I have been avoiding these types of roles simply because of being rebuffed each time I apply for not having Aerospace experience !

It may also have something to do with security clearances, as defense contractors tend to require them.

Heh, no, a security clearance is a specific rating level that you have to go through a process to get (interviews, background checks, etc) that usually takes time. My step-brother went to work for a defense contractor after he got out of the navy, & essentially spent six months there twiddling his thumbs while his security clearance was processed.

If you browse through job listings for defense contractors, you'll see a lot of "security clearance required"'s - that's what they're talking about, they want you to already have the clearance.
