Angry Relevant Experience

Hi. I'm a recent MBA graduate in SCM. Prior to receiving my MBA I mainly worked in IT as a software developer (6+ yrs) and a few years in various manufacturing jobs. My undergrad is Intl Bus and I thought I would have a relatively easy time securing a mid-level position in Supply Chain. However, the problem I'm finding is the jobs I feel I am qualified for require 5-7 yrs of SC experience and I'm over-qualified for entry level. I have very strong analytical and technical skills but I just can't seem to break in. Can someone please give me some advice?

Thanks.

MG,

I know the feeling, I am in the opposite boat, I have the experience but not the qualifications, I do tend to change employers every 3 years just to give me a very broad spectrum of skills and disciplines.

I would just suggest keep trying what you are doing, if possible try to put together presentations as to what you are capable of doing for the company you are approaching, try to get as much feedback from the recruiter or agency that you are using about each role that you are interested in, and if granted an interview tailor your presenation to their needs.

Hope this helps.

Hey MG

Not sure how you are getting on, but my advice from a recruitment point of view is that most companies won't pay the fee for someone who does not meet their exact requirements. However if you approach companies direct you will often have a better time of it.

From experience though your best bet is often get a role with a multinational doing what you've done and move internally
