Default Supply Chain Consultants a waste of space?

I would appreciate some feedback on these questions-and yeah I am in the consulting game-but dont hold back-genuine criticism most welcome.
Specialist Supply Chain Consultants seem to be a rare breed and good ones even rarer-has anybody ever used one?
Why did you call them in?
How did you choose them?
Did they deliver to expectations?
What could you have done to achieve a better result?
What preparation did you do before the project start?
Would you use one again?

If you are an SCC-what are the 3 client/consulltant issues that you find have the greatest effect on a project's outcome?

Horror/Success stories welcome from both sides!!!!

Elder,

It might be interesting to run a poll to see how widely used consultants are. But I guess that might vary dependant on country/region.

I have been trying to get into Consultancy, I have over 15 years of experience in Supply Chain and have worked for a couple of Blue Chips in management roles, but I only have a foundation Degree.

What should be my next step?
